Greve in Chianti
Greve in Chianti, a small town in the province of Firenze with some 4.000 inhabitants is situated on the via chiantigiana between Firenze and Siena and is an important winegrowing center of the region. Some 30 kilometers south of Firenze, Greve got the name from the little river that crosses the town and is the heart of the Chianti Classico area. Greve is embedded in a characteristically Tuscan landscape of gentle rolling hills and valleys covered with vineyards, olive groves and forests spiked with cypresses.
The most important grape cultivated in this area is the Sangiovese. A prestigious variety with Tuscan roots which is prominent in most red vines from central Italy. The Sangiovese is very sensitive to factors such as soil and climate. It is though extraordinary how well this variety can absorb and reflect the characteristics of the soil and reveal a different bouquet driven by the territory on which the Sangiovese is grown.
